There is so much that India’s senior statesmen can learn from Team Dhoni. Will do the country a lot of good. Recent events in both the fields throw up such stark comparisons.
Fixing/corruption ? Get the culprits out. They CANNOT be in the game. Period.
Experienced, so called indispensable players replaced by young, energetic, charged up, passionate, fire in the belly members. The show goes on ….. and with better results !!
Get the right skills at the right place and results will come. No place for people with no understanding of the domain they lord over. Jadeja, Bhuvaneswar, Ashwin, Virat, Shikhar ….. just keep counting names ….. they bring in the best in their domain
IQ is a necessary condition.
Groom the young members and empower them with accountability.
Need to take tough stands and decisions in team selection and in playing the game.
Passion for the country. Selfish fixers and criminals should be out.
No need to open your mouth unnecessarily. Dhoni’s measured silence and cool in the toughest situations is a lesson for so many of our loud mouthed elders. LET YOUR ACTIONS DO THE TALKING !!
Thinking on your feet, adaptive capacity and leadership in driving change …..
Above all ….. Maturity, Inner Strength and Transcending Self.
Jai Ho !!

Really nice article.
GREAT!
Hi JP,
I see that India has been successful (recently) against Sri Lanka and the West Indies but have these same cricketers been consistently successful everywhere (against, say, England in England or Australia in Australia)? Our politicians have to compete every day against the whole world for the country to be successful and it seems clear that they are also doing a miserable job when they can bully Bhutan but kowtow to China. In that sense, the Indian political animal is the classic bully: ultimately a coward who can only harrass those weaker than him.
Indian cricket is not that much better but when they can consistently justify their rankings throughout the world, and are themselves free of corruption, then i would be willing to take Doni’s leadership more seriously. Have we forgotten about his studious silence just about a month ago when Sreesanth and others were charged with match-fixing?
Hi Shrikanth !! Thanks for your comments please. Very well put.
Just a few points, my own views though ….. while losses can happen in sports or anywhere, it is how you come back that is important. Team Dhoni did that brilliantly and this time even against England in England ….. don’t miss that 🙂 With multiple series wins, I think they truly deserve compliments !! Our politicians just keep dragging downwards.
As regards fixers, corrupt and greedy, they have and will always appear on this planet. It is again how they are dealt with that is important or poisonous weeds destroy the garden. Sreesanth and gang have been thrown out. The BCCI political group still unaccused 🙂
I personally, really think that Dhoni’s ‘studious’ silence was a well measured and rightly timed response, needing a LOT OF INNER POISE, BALANCE AND CALM. Better than uttering speculative and titillating nonsense as so many of our politicians do everyday. Remember that Dhoni had the great responsibility of leading a team of youngsters with such sensitive issues just behind them ….. and to keep them focussed and motivated. And what a Super Response …..
Interesting discussion. Could not resist stepping in.
JP, may be you would not like it but I would tend to lean towards what Srikanth has said in his bit. MSD is calm, composed,,, all that is fine but his success and that of his ‘so called’ young ‘Team India’ has to be a continuous phenomenon across different countries. How can we forget MSD & Co got beaten 3-1 by England recently in our own back yard – after 28 years!!! So, i believe it is too early to compare acheivements on a cricket field with that of our politicians who have a ‘much larger and complex field’ to play on.
As regards the spot fixing, even Sreesanth & co are still be proven guilty but I am sure nothing is going to come out of this scam …. bcos none of the ‘top’ BCCI honchos have got ‘BALLS’ to call a spade a spade. Too much ‘rigging and fixing’ out there at the top.
Cheers
Rangan
Thanks for stepping in Ranga. Just two points please :
– Agree that more and continuous ‘evidence’ is always better !! That does not and cannot take away credit for evidence of ‘good’ performance ….. which is better than evidence of ‘no’ performance.
– Your point about ‘politician’ dominated BCCI honchos probably reinforces that they can learn a lesson or two from our young cricketers. Considering that they deal with ‘complex’ issues all the time, they should have been able to handle such a ‘simple’ issue very easily. Both, the young cricketers and these BCCI political honchos were hit with the ‘fixing’ issue at the same time. The ‘immature’youngsters moved ahead miles, while the mature ‘complex’ issue handling politicos haven’t moved an inch.

JPS
Boss,
Well written !! Yes, we are full of complexes.
India being an emerging country , its time that :
– Politicians need to be accountable
– A lot should be spent in terms of investing on training on youth empowerment.( this is where you can compare not only with cricket but other sports which is doing well. )
– Performance charts should be more visible than what is being said on official websites, media should work towards appraisal data, not for TRP debates but factuals for people to evaluate.
– Fighting corruption is possible provided the system gives guarantee of security to whistleblowers, which is far fetched.A case study is in Karnataka where the guy was threatened until the power brokers stepped in . System should protect.
– Above all one must have “Passion & Perseverance ”
Thanks JP .
